Japanese anime with a gender twist

If you are into anime (Japanese style) animated movies and gender transgressions, you might want to follow this discussion over at Crossdream Life.

Members discuss movies and comics where the protagonist is transformed into the other sex. Kämpfer, which tells the story of high school student Nasuro Seno who is changed into a female warrior, is dismissed as sexist and repetitive by some.

As one puts it:

"I just got bored. That said, I recently just started a different anime that seems to be going in the opposite direction.  It, like Kampfer, is about magical girls who are forced to fight one another.  And, while the Main character of this show is a cis-female, there is also a character in it (who plays a fairly major role) who is normally male and has to become a girl when using her powers. It is called 'Magical Girl Raising Project,'"

Jen adds some really interesting reflections on the role of gender transgressions and asexuality in Japanese culture.

A safe place for discussing gender variance!
